Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts
A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents his first title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.
The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one various competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.
However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.
Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a tight third set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.
Suitably, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
